Fun Friday

Photobucket

Margie: So this is Fun Friday? Well, I didn't have much fun today. Would you like to know why? Yes, it's partly because Edna is back. No day is fun with her always in a bad mood.

First, Mrs. Pastor took me to get my hair done. That part was fun. I then asked her if she'd mind taking me by the grocery store. She's a sweet lady so she didn't mind at all.

I had almost finished shopping when I remembered I needed some prune juice. As I was about to grab a bottle, who walked by but the most handsome young man you ever saw? I happened to get behind him and we both ended up in the produce section. He appeared to be looking at me so I winked at him. He started to stare so I winked more. I figured the beauty shop must have really done a good job on my hair!

Suddenly, he approached me. Oh, I smiled my best smile and batted my lashes. Would you believe he said, "Excuse me, but do you know you seem to have something wrong with your eye?" How is that for stupid? He must have lived a sheltered life.

Travelin' Edna

Edna: Hello everyone! As some of you were aware, I was taking a vacation from my sister--er, BLOGGING, but I just couldn't stay away any longer. I missed you all too much, and I had to see what my sister was up to in my absence. I suppose Margie behaved herself somewhat on our blog while I was gone, but trust me when I tell you that you do NOT want to see the mess she made in the basement. My lands, I don't know what she was up to down there, and I don't want to know so none of you tell me.

I didn't tell anyone where I went on my vacation because I didn't want my sister tagging along. She gets whiny when she thinks she's missing something fun, so I just told her I was going to a month-long knitting seminar. I surely didn't think she was dumb enough to believe that, but she didn't bat an eyelash when I told her that load of baloney. She even helped me pack, wasn't that sweet?

Now, if you're all waiting for me to tell you where I went, you've got a long wait coming. I had so much fun that I'm planning on going back and I don't want my sister ruining it for me by going there and getting our good family name banned from the state. I'll give you a hint, though: it had palm trees, sand, and sun. And it was someplace where they know how to treat the elderly with dignity and respect. That's all I'm going to say, but I did come back with a lovely tan and a little souvenir for Margie.

Edna: I think it looks a little like Margie.

Paul "Bear" Bryant - Died January 26, 1983 at the age of 69. He was the legendary head coach of University of Alabama's football team.

What a great coach he was. He took the Crimson Tide on a winning streak that no fan will ever forget. We still love you Bear!

Opposite Day

Photobucket

This could be a fun day or people could just think you're bonkers. Try it and see what happens. Edna does this all the time. She always says the opposite of what I say. Poor nitwit can't help it because she was born a fruitcake.

Enjoy your day!

Edna's Fun Friday: Techno Chicken

Edna: Some days you just feel like watching something silly. And today is one of those days.

I wonder how many dance lessons they had to give that chicken...

Edna Returns Soon

Margie: I was looking through some old photos last night when I found this one of Edna. How do you like it? It captures her perfectly.

Photobucket

Unfortunately, the old hussy will be back from vacation this weekend. I sure haven't missed her. I've had such a good time with her gone. I've not had to listen to her try to boss me or call me names or mess up the house.

I even hired a maid while Edna's gone. Cousin T really didn't like wearing that apron but I did cook for him so he wore it anyway. That boy is a good one to move heavy furniture.

I guess I'd best start hiding the evidence of what I did while the dingbat was gone. I figure she's going to be so mad about the cold weather that she won't bother me much. She'll have a hissy fit because she went to a warm place only to find it was cold there too.

Told you she's a dingbat!

Possum Living

Photobucket

Margie: I would like to thank Ruth of Ruth's Creations' Blog for a recent comment this week about Dolly Freed.

Dolly is the author of the book "Possum Living: How To Live Well Without A Job And With (Almost) No Money". See an interview with Dolly here.

Sounds like a book that many of us could use nowadays. Check out this recent article in The New York Times.

The Best of M&E: Edna's Lawn Art

Originally posted October 17, 2008

Grocery Shopping

Photobucket

Margie: It's been so cold and snowy that I haven't been to the grocery store in almost two weeks. I decided to brave the cold today so I asked Cousin T to drive me to Publix. There are just a few problems with grocery shopping these days.

First, everything costs too much. I love my orange juice but all I hear is that the price is going to jump due to the cold in Florida. Is it my fault that the cold hit down there? Why should I pay more?

Two, things don't taste good like they did when I was young. Edna and I used to love Dolly Madison Banana Flips when we were girls. The last one I bought had artificial banana so it tasted like manure.

Finally, I don't like to cook anymore but it's more expensive to eat out of cans and boxes. Well, I'd really like a plate of Mama's cooking.

I guess I understand now why old folks talk about the good old days. That was when food tasted good.

Cousin T: I came as quick as I could Miss Margie. Bobby Fink delivered your message to high tail it over here and bring my goo-lashes. But it hain’t rained in weeks - more likely to snow I’d say.

Margie: Slow down, Cousin T, and open your ears.
You know how folks make all these New Year's revolutions? Some say they want to diet or take a trip or whatever. You know?

Cousin T: Yeah, like for instance, mine is to quit having damn fool notions

Margie: Good. Here's my notion then. You take that hose of ours and go in the back yard and run water until the back fills up. That water should freeze real quick. We'll be ice skating in no time. Then we'll charge folks to come skate and tell them this is good exercise.

Cousin T: Them revolutions is over rated anyhow. Do you think I should cut the grass first so we get less of it sticking up through the ice?

Margie: Cousin T, you know I don't know a thing about yard work. Wait. Wouldn't a little grass sticking up be a pretty decoration?

You decide and I'll go make your fried apple pies.

Edna's Fun Friday: Get LOST

Edna: One of my favorite shows the past few years has been the ABC drama, LOST. It gets a mite confusing at times, but it's still plenty enjoyable to watch! This season is going to be their last season, which is sad, but I suppose all good things must come to an end. To get everyone excited for the season premiere on February 2nd, ABC has been airing promos. Although they don't have any footage from the new season, they're still plenty exciting to watch.

The Best of M&E: Edna, The Fashion Policewoman

Originally posted on October 6, 2008

Edna: I'd like to take a moment to speak to all you young (and not-so-young) ladies out there about something I've noticed. These days, it seems like every time I step out to do some shopping, I see women who clearly don't know how to dress in public.

Ice Cold Margie

Photobucket

Margie: I don't know about you all but I'm a cold old lady. Lawsy me, the weather is just frightful.

I'm sitting by the fire in the parlor and having a nice cordial and I think I'll look at some pictures to see if they can warm my bones. Come look with me and stay warm.

Trivia Day

Photobucket

Margie: I sure am glad the holidays are over. They get on my last nerve. I don't like decorating and I don't cook anymore and I'm too broke to buy gifts. Speaking of gifts, the best gift I got is Edna being gone.

When Edna is gone I don't need my nerve pills, I can enjoy the peace and quiet, and I can play Jeopardy without Edna squawking like a banshee.

Today is Trivia Day and I love trivia games. It's too bad that Edna does too because she's a sore loser. If you ever want to play some trivia games then here are some places you can go.
