M&E answer your questions--part 2

Photobucket

Edna: Many thanks to all of you who asked us questions last week! We hope you all enjoy reading our responses. If you haven't already checked it out, we answered some of the questions in yesterday's post. Below are all the answers we didn't get to yesterday.

++++++++++++++++

1. From Mara:

What do you do when a friend of yours starts "copying" you? Your words, your expressions, your favorite food and restaurants, almost everything that it's starting to annoy you. She may mean no harm though and it looks like she's not even aware that she's doing it.

Margie: Edna has done that to me and it's because she's jealous and wants to be me. You may have to ask your friend if she's noticed what she's doing. She probably hasn't.

Edna: Margie gave you some good advice about talking to your friend. It always helps to get these issues out in the open if something is bothering you. And always keep in mind that no matter how annoying it may be, she wouldn't do those things if she didn't admire you.

And for the record, I never copy Margie--she's nobody's idea of a good role model.

Also from Mara: This might be too personal for both of you so it's okay if you don't give out details but I'm just curious whether you two fight and how long did it last?

Margie: Well, we haven't had physical fights but Edna's tongue is as sharp as a sword. I suppose it's safe to say that we've been fighting nearly 75 years.

Edna: My sister speaks the truth, it's been one ongoing argument about something or other since I was born. The best I can tell, Margie was jealous that I came along and replaced her as the favorite in the household. She's been trying to take me down a peg ever since. Mind you, that doesn't mean we don't love each other--you show me a family who claims they don't argue and I'll show you a family of lying liars.

2. From Con Artist Trickster:

Pick one between these two:
A week without washing dishes but you can't watch your dear boys' movies. (Or)
A week with extra movies of your favorite boys but with extra house cleaning also.

Margie: I'll pick the boys every time no matter how much extra work I'd have to do.

Edna: I agree with Margie. What's the point of having extra entertainment if all your time is taken up with the extra housework?

3. From Hitesh Rawat:

Why Margie and Edna's Basement...... why not....roof....kitchen.....?

Margie: Because we don't allow men on the roof or in the kitchen. Gentlemen belong in the basement where I can keep them in sight.

4. From Doctor Faustroll:

Is Toto there?

Margie: I don't wear a tutu unless...

Edna: Doctor Faustroll, you'll have to excuse my idiot sister. To answer your question: no, Toto is not here. Neither is the Tin Man, although my sister reminds me an awful lot of that horrible Wicked Witch of the West. I like to call her the Wicked Witch of the Basement, but usually only when she has her hearing aid turned down.

5. From Daily Spirit Online:

Do either of you belong to any old ladies societies or groups and if so/not why/why not?

Edna: Well, my sister and I belong to the ladies' group at the church. I don't know if that counts, it seems like we're the only two old ladies still spry enough to participate. I do like the idea of that Red Hat Society, where they eat dessert first, but wearing red and purple together just isn't my style.

Margie: I answer no questions asked by somebody who calls me an "old lady."

To our faithful readers

Recently, we had some nice comments posted on our "Margie and Edna remember VJ Day" blog entry. While we're very glad you enjoyed the sisters' "memories" of that day, we felt like we needed to correct some misconceptions. Margie and Edna are not real people, and what we wrote are not real memories. By and large, the posts on this blog are works of fiction, and are meant to be enjoyed primarily for their entertainment value. Neither of the authors of this blog are octogenarians--not even close! Nor are we real-life sisters. Now, this is not to say that there might not be a kernel of truth in some of these posts; we often take from our real-life experiences, or from those of our parents and/or grandparents.

We are delighted and flattered that these caricatures ring so true for some of you. We've been told that the ladies' interactions often remind people of their own relatives, and we're happy that they strike a chord among our readers. We enjoy so much presenting these ladies to you, our regular readers, and we hope that you continue to visit here to see what the ladies are up to. We promise you, they have many more adventures to tell you about!

Sincerely,

Jane and Beth, aka "Margie" and "Edna"

Ask Margie and Edna

Photobucket

This question is for Miss Edna. When you was in Paris France did you see any outstandin' art work in the louver?

Edna: That's a fine question, and I could see why you'd ask that, considering that it's well known that I spent some time in Paris, France as a young girl. France is known for its many works of art, especially in that fancy art museum there in Paris. I should point out that when I was there, I had my hands full with other matters, there was no time for swanning around like a tourist in art museums. Let me put it this way: I went for vacation, as was the fashion for young American ladies at that time. But once there I actively resisted leaving the French in the state they were in, if you catch my meaning. Besides, there wasn't anything to see in the Louvre then; the Frenchies had the good sense to hide their artwork away to keep it safe from this nasty little man that Europe was dealing with at the time.

That's all I can say about that, I'm sure you understand that anything else I could say about my time there is considered classified information.

And here is one for Miss Margie: Do you think people are gee-netically predisposed to lie?

Margie: I am proud to say that I have studied this question in depth for many years. I will tell you what I have discovered.

There are liars, lying liars, and people who just wouldn't know the truth if it bit them. Liars only lie when it's convenient so that's not genetic.

Lying liars are people like Edna who lie because they are sad creatures with no one paying them any attention.

It's only genetic if you don't really know what the truth is. Like delusions.

Thank you for asking.

Margie's School of Romance

Photobucket

Margie: Edna, you know men have changed. They used to be gentlemen but men of today have lost their sense of romance. I believe in education so I'm going to start teaching classes in the basement.

Margie's School of Romance
Opening Soon
For gentlemen of all ages

Edna: Margie, I don't think you're qualified to be teaching that class. I think you'd better offer a money-back guarantee, because I know you're going to have some unsatisfied customers.

Margie: Edna, I haven't had an unsatisfied customer yet. Don't you remember how it felt when you got a lovely letter from a nice gentleman? I'm talking about a letter praising your virtues? Forget it, you don't have any.

Edna: As everyone in Jericho knows, there is no lady more virtuous than I am, so I surely would enjoy receiving a letter from a nice gentleman. I wouldn't want one from the men in your class though; anyone who looks to you for guidance about romance would have to be off their rocker.
