National Puppy Day

Photobucket

Margie: Edna, today is National Puppy Day which supports the ban of Puppy Mills. I agree with that too. Folks could help all these animals by rescuing instead of buying. You know how I feel about this subject so you best agree with me.

Edna: No need to badger me, of course I agree with you that puppy mills should be banned. What do you think I am, some kind of heartless shrew?

Margie: That's what you are for sure. Well, you're only heartless to people, not animals.

Let's spread the word about today to all our friends. Edna, can we adopt a puppy and name him Jericho?

Edna: Margie, that's a nice idea about the puppy. But I don't think it's a good idea for two old ladies to adopt an energetic puppy, because I'm not sure we can keep up with him. It would be a shame for him to come live here then not get the exercise he deserves. He'd get plenty of love, though. Let's ask Cousin T if he can take in a puppy; he's got all that pasture land back of his house. Lots of good rabbit-hunting to be found there. And a boy surely does need a dog or three.

Margie: Great idea! I'll go call Cousin T.Maybe he'll bring us some rabbit to fry.

Merry Christmas Eve

Margie (Jane):Merry Christmas Eve. I thought I'd take this opportunity to hijack our blog and wish a Happy Birthday to the love of my life.

This is Arabelle but I call her Boo. She is 3 years old today and I cannot imagine my life without her. She is my best friend.

Happy Birthday my Boo.

Be Kind To Animals Week

Photobucket

Margie: Edna and I may not agree on much but we do believe that animals are a blessing and they need humans to help them. That's why Edna and I are proud to announce that this week is Be Kind To Animals Week.

We hope everyone is kind to animals all the time but we're also hoping this special week may bring more attention to the subject. Why not give your animal a special hug today and tell your friends and family to do the same?

National Dog Day

Photobucket

National Dog Day has two goals: to honor dogs, and to rescue dogs from homelessness and abuse.

Margie: Edna, we should make a donation to our shelter today. I wouldn't like being homeless and abused. How would you feel if we'd been abused and nobody wanted to adopt us? Poor dogs can't take care of themselves like people can. It's a crying shame how people can't see that poor animals need to be loved too.

Edna: Margie, I know we can't afford to give much, but I would willingly give up your special tea budget to help these poor animals. Dogs are such special creatures, and they deserve our love, and all the help we can give.

Margie: Edna, you can give up your tea budget if you like but I need that tea for my nerves. I'll donate a little out of my discretionary fund. I've been very careful with that money as you well know.

Dogs are special, Edna, and they love people unconditionally.

Be Kind To Animals Week

Margie: Edna, hold on to your bloomers because I'm going to give you a compliment. You're a mean-spirited, hateful sister but I know you love animals and would never hurt them. For that, I thank you.

Edna: I never thought I'd say this, but you're absolutely right, Margie. I do love animals, they are often kinder and more loving to us than most humans are to each other. That's why they deserve our kindness in return.

The American Humane Association created Be Kind to Animals Week in 1915 to celebrate the unique bond between humans and animals. We would like to share a few ways in which you can also be kind to animals.

Adopt your pet from a shelter or rescue. Approximately 8 to 12 million animals enter shelters every year, and more than half of these pets will have to be euthanized because of a lack of homes. Local shelters are the best place to find companion animals, even purebreds -- one out of every four dogs in a shelter is a purebred.

Teach the people in your life, especially children, about the importance of being kind to animals.

Spay or Neuter your pets -- this is a big step to controlling pet overpopulation

Never tolerate animal cruelty -- report animal abuse to your local humane society or animal control agency.

Be aware of Black Dog Syndrome and educate others. So many black dogs and cats are not adopted because of their color. Why? Go here for information.
