Kids Need to Read!

Margie: Edna and I have decided to make this Nathan Fillion Week. Lordy, I'd love to have him visit my basement. What a hunk! 

Don't mind me because I want to tell you how sweet my Nathan is. He is the co-founder of Kids Need To Read. What's it all about?


"Kids Need to Read is a national nonprofit foundation that promotes childhood literacy and addresses the crisis in library funding that currently exists in the United States. Donating inspiring, new books to schools, public libraries, juvenile offender facilities, dropout recovery programs, urban afterschool organizations, and special education classes, the foundation works to develop a lifelong love of reading and an awareness of social responsibility in all children."

Fun Friday

Margie: American Idol has brought us some excellent singers but not so many winners have had what it takes to be a real success. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, I believe, have real staying power. So does Crystal Bowersox although she didn't win. Take a listen to her voice.

I'm not too fond of this song but her voice makes it worth listening to and you can find her on YouTube. Check out Crystal singing Janis Joplin. That's amazing!

Margie: International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day is a day for the dogs. That's because there is no one else who can really appreciate the true value of a dog biscuit. They say "Every dog has his day". And, it will definitely be his day,when you give him some tasty dog biscuits.

Do A Grouch A Favor Day

Margie: Today is Do A Grouch a Favor Day. Well, let me tell you something! It won't do you a bit of good to do some grouches a favor because they like to be a grouch.

For instance, look at my sister. She's only happy when she's grouchy and she's grouchy all the time except when Pastor and his wife drop by sometimes.

I'm going to do myself a favor and stay in my room today.

Margie: Valentine's Day is just around the corner. I can't imagine anybody wanting to buy Edna anything but, if you do, here's a hint. The more makeup Edna can pack on her face the better she likes it. All those deep wrinkles need a lot of makeup so she can always use more.

Edna thinks she looks like a young Judy Garland but Edna doesn't look like a young anything. My word! Send makeup or send nothing.

American Heart Month

Margie: February is American Heart Month. No, I'm not just talking Valentine's. Those would be nice though. In fact, there's never been a year when at least one gentleman didn't bring  me flowers and chocolate. My sister, Edna, is a different story. Well, that's a story for another time.

I'm here today to talk about heart health. Just look at me still going with a strong heart. Unlike some people I know I don't lay on the sofa all day cramming my mouth full of candy and cookies.

Edna:  Margie and don't normally watch the Super Bowl, although Margie does like to watch the young men run around in their tight pants.  We happened to catch this commercial last night and we really enjoyed it.  What was your favorite Super Bowl commercial this year?

Edna:  It's February again, and this time of year has me thinking of valentines and keeping warm in the cold weather with a nice, handsome man.  So, here's a little valentine for my favorite handsome man, mon cher Gilles:

Groundhog Day

Edna:  Whose bright idea was it to let this guy predict the weather?

Edna:  Margie does a much better job figuring out how much longer winter will last, but her method involves a lot of special tea and "private consultations" with the Margiedales.  Plus, she's not nearly as cute as Phil here, although she was nearly as hairy before she got those laser treatments.

Happy Groundhog Day, everyone!  Let's hope he has the answer today that everyone wants to hear.
