A new hope for Jericho?

Photobucket

Edna:  Margie, I just found something on the Internet, I think you'd best come over here and listen to this. Do you remember when that film crew was in Jericho a few years back, making that documentary about us townfolk?  I'm sure you do, I definitely remember how much you complained that they focused too much on the Green family (especially that scandalous Jake Green!) and not enough on the rest of us.

Margie: Edna, those folks came here and made a big commotion but did they put you and me on the TV? No, and we've lived here longer than anybody else. We ARE Jericho. Nuts!

Edna:  I think we'd better take some steps to make sure we're included this time.  I don't know about you, but I'm going to go out and buy a new hat. The flashier the better, maybe that will attract some attention during filming.  Plus, I'm going to write a letter to that Mr. Netflix, whoever he is. Plead our case directly, so to speak.

Margie: Great idea! I think I'll wear my new hat that has the big fish on it. Do write him a letter and we'll enclose a picture of me. He won't be able to refuse us then for sure!

+++++++++++++++

News broke last week on various online media outlets (TV Guide and The New York Times, among others) that Netflix may be picking up Jericho in order to resume filming the TV series that originally aired on CBS. We were tickled to hear the news, because Jericho is a show that we both hold near and dear to our hearts.  This is partly because we both participated in the original fight for the second season, but it's also because Jericho is how and why we became friends in the first place.  We would love for Jericho to get another chance, and fans are mobilizing to help Netflix to fully appreciate what a devoted fandom Jericho already has.  If you're interested in becoming involved, we suggest you check out SavingJericho.com for resources and suggestions on how to let your voice be heard.

Margie, Get Your Gun

Photobucket

Margie: Here's a picture of me when I was a few years younger than I am now. I was quite the markslady back then and you should have seen that fella run when I told him to get away from me or I'd fill him full of buckshot!

Anyway, it's the time of year when networks start renewing or cancelling our favorite shows so my picture best remind them that I don't cotton to my shows being cancelled. Just look how they treated Jericho! Margie has not forgotten. You hear me, CBS?

Here's a friendly warning to Fox. Don't you dare cancel my Alcatraz! You got that? I enjoy Jorge Garcia and I want you to leave him alone!

Who's next? CW, listen up. I absolutely love Ringer and you cancel it and I'll be ringing you! You don't want me to get angry. Just ask Edna.

I think my other show are safe. Oh, CBS, I want Jericho back too. Idjits!

April Must See TV

Photobucket

Margie: Edna, I see some good TV programs this month. I'm watching every show that comes on about the Royal Wedding then I'm getting up early on April 29th to watch the wedding itself. That means I'll be cooking my breakfast about 3 a.m. so you can stay out of my way.

Here's another good one to watch called " Too Cute! Kittens." It's on the Animal Planet on April 30 at 8 P.M. EST. I remember my first boyfriend calling me Kitten. He said I was so soft and cuddly. Well, never you mind.

Edna:  You can just cook up some breakfast for me too, because I'll be watching right along with you.  My lands, I remember watching when that boy's parents got married.  I'm glad we didn't know then how it would all turn out.

I have to say, I'm really enjoying a new ABC show, "Body of Proof" with Dana Delaney.  She's been a favorite of mine since the 80s when she was on "China Beach."  I hope they keep this show around.

Margie: I like that Dana Delaney too. She's got spunk & she's almost as pretty as I am.

You go to the store and get all the breakfast fixings. Get jam and scones and tea plus some tarts and don't forget the bottle so we can have a few nips during the show.

Edna:  Yes, your Majesty.

Friday with Rue

Margie: I am very sad today because Rue McClanahan has passed away. I loved her as Blanche on "Golden Girls."

Here's a small tribute:

Sassy Miss Betty

Edna: So Margie, what did you think of Betty White on SNL? You were kind of hard to read during the show, I couldn't tell what you were thinking. Which is a change from the rest of the time, when the cut-off switch between your brain and mouth is permanently in the "on" position.

Margie: I shouldn't even answer that question, nitwit. I love Betty White but she has caused me to hurt myself. Yes, folks, Betty made me fall off the couch with her "Wizard of A--" routine.

I bet the ratings were out the roof on that episode. I wonder if Betty would like to blog with me. She's sure funnier than you, sister.

Edna: And here I thought you fell off the couch because of your inner ear problem. You know, it figures that you enjoyed her potty mouth. I swan, she said things I never thought I'd hear a woman our age utter. And on live television, too! I thought she was more refined than that, but clearly you and she are two peas in a pod.

Miss Betty, I love you, but please remember: you don't have to be off-color to be funny. Case in point was the CSI: Sarasota sketch, which was a hoot, and no foul language anywhere! Using profanity as humor is just lazy writing, in my humble opinion.

Still, she did a good job with what she was given, and she's a wonderful sport for hosting when the fans wanted her to. She said at the end of the show that she was a "scared host," so I give her much credit for facing her fears. And it seemed to me like the audience and the cast were just tickled pink to have her there, which I thought was very touching.

Here folks, take a look at what my loopy sister thought was so funny....

Summer TV

Margie: Edna, it's a crying shame that we have all these channels and I can't find a good TV show that interests me. Just because it's summer doesn't mean that all of us are doing other things instead of watching TV.

When folks get to be our age TV is about all we have to enjoy in the summer. We can't go outside and fall out from heat stroke or some such ailment. What do you think, sister?

Edna: Trust me, Margie, you don't want to know what I really think.

But I will say this, I hate it when my favorite show goes on summer hiatus. You go along great guns during the regular TV season, getting caught up in the story, then BAM! They yank the rug out from under you and make you wait precious months out of your life before you can find out what happens next. It's criminal, I tell you.

Margie: It surely is criminal. I'd like to know what idiot thinks I'll like these summer replacements. One of them is The Listener so I watched to see if I might like it. Well, the main character looks like he should still be in kindergarten and the storyline has been done on every show in every kind of way so it was boring.

I miss Ed Sullivan and Hee Haw and Lawrence Welk. Remember them, Edna?

Edna: Of course I remember them, although I always thought that Lawrence Welk was a little dry and dusty. Now Hee Haw, that was a show!

Margie, I've decided I'm going to let you watch all the summer replacement shows and you can tell me which ones to watch. While you're doing that, I'm going to spend my evenings down at the retirement home entertaining the available gentlemen.

Margie: Floozy, floozy, floozy! I'm not going to tell you what to watch because you don't deserve to know! I'm going to call CBS and tell them I've got a floozy who needs her own reality show. That'll give folks something to watch.

Besides, knowing CBS, they'll cancel you and maybe then I'll be rid of you for good. Floozy.

Edna: Well, this floozy plans on borrowing your diamond earbobs for my visits to the retirement home, so just fork 'em over.

And believe you me, I would welcome TV cameras into this house, because then the whole world could see just how poorly you treat me. I bet I'd get lots of wonderful fan mail, too. Margie, go ahead and call the network, I like this idea.

M&E's TV Rant

Photobucket

Edna: Margie, I am plumb fed up, and for once it doesn't have anything to do with you.

Margie: In that case, Edna, tell me all about it. I'm all ears.

Edna: Thank you, Margie. I swan, I'm so upset about this, I think I might need a cup of special tea. Maybe two.

Those dang fool networks are at it again, they're canceling my favorite shows! First ABC decided that they weren't going to order any more episodes of Pushing Daisies (and we all know what that means). Then, NBC decided to get in on the act and they canceled My Own Worst Enemy. What's going to go next? Chuck? Fringe? Heaven forbid, Supernatural??

Margie, it's getting to the point that I don't even want to watch new shows any more. What's the point? I find something I like, and then the networks cancel it. It's all about the ratings and their advertisers, TV executives sure don't care about their real customers: the viewers.

Margie: I need special tea too because I agree with you and that's scary.

I mainly watch cable now and you should too. Cancel Supernatural? Edna, I'd make their life a living Hades. I'd put a voodoo curse on those idiots.

Maybe we should just rent some of those men movies. You know the ones.

Edna: Margie, you never cease to amaze me. And I don't mean that in a good way.

I think we'd better start looking up voodoo curses, because I have a feeling things on TV are going to get worse before they get better.

Margie: I'm with you, sister. How does The Margie and Edna Network sound?

Edna: Sounds good to me!
