A new hope for Jericho?

Photobucket

Edna:  Margie, I just found something on the Internet, I think you'd best come over here and listen to this. Do you remember when that film crew was in Jericho a few years back, making that documentary about us townfolk?  I'm sure you do, I definitely remember how much you complained that they focused too much on the Green family (especially that scandalous Jake Green!) and not enough on the rest of us.

Margie: Edna, those folks came here and made a big commotion but did they put you and me on the TV? No, and we've lived here longer than anybody else. We ARE Jericho. Nuts!

Edna:  I think we'd better take some steps to make sure we're included this time.  I don't know about you, but I'm going to go out and buy a new hat. The flashier the better, maybe that will attract some attention during filming.  Plus, I'm going to write a letter to that Mr. Netflix, whoever he is. Plead our case directly, so to speak.

Margie: Great idea! I think I'll wear my new hat that has the big fish on it. Do write him a letter and we'll enclose a picture of me. He won't be able to refuse us then for sure!

+++++++++++++++

News broke last week on various online media outlets (TV Guide and The New York Times, among others) that Netflix may be picking up Jericho in order to resume filming the TV series that originally aired on CBS. We were tickled to hear the news, because Jericho is a show that we both hold near and dear to our hearts.  This is partly because we both participated in the original fight for the second season, but it's also because Jericho is how and why we became friends in the first place.  We would love for Jericho to get another chance, and fans are mobilizing to help Netflix to fully appreciate what a devoted fandom Jericho already has.  If you're interested in becoming involved, we suggest you check out SavingJericho.com for resources and suggestions on how to let your voice be heard.

National Peanut Month

Photobucket

Margie: March is National Peanut Month. I guess we all know a lot about peanuts. Yes, I remember when CBS came to town and filmed Jericho. It was a wonderful show even though a lot of nuts watched it. I bet a lot of nuts are still working at CBS too. I won't call any names.

I remember all the nuts we sent those folks. Those were the days, huh? Well, it's pretty quiet here these days. Edna and I still go to Bailey's but Skeet doesn't come by anymore and all those TV trucks are gone.

You all grab some nuts and let's watch the reruns of Jericho. Come see us again. We'll leave the lights on for you.

Can it be true? A "Jericho" movie!

Photobucket

Margie: Edna, do you remember when all those nice folks came to town and made that TV show called Jericho? We met that lovely Jennie Sword and April Parker-Jones and all those other lovely people.

You aren't going to believe what I found out today at the beauty parlor. Guess, Edna.

Edna: Did they finally get up the nerve to tell you that your hair is falling out? Because I've been telling you that for years and you never believe me.

Of course I remember that TV show, you ninny! Now, just tell me what you found out, I can tell that you can hardly contain yourself.

Margie: I'm ignoring your insults today, prune lips. That's because I'm happy since Jericho is going to be a movie. It'll be on the big screen, Edna.

I just know they're going to want us in the movie so who do you want to play the part of you?

Edna: A movie! Oh Margie, that's wonderful news. Why, I'd want to play myself, of course. First of all, no other actress could do me justice (except for maybe Dame Judi Dench, but I doubt she could lose that accent and sound like someone from Kansas). And secondly, you know I always aspired to a film career but Mama and Daddy never approved. Now's my chance!

Margie: Edna, I'm playing myself because I want to do some love scenes. That's what I'm best at doing. Maybe I'll have one with that young Skeet or Brad Beyer. Maybe I'll just have a love scene with all the gentlemen.

We'd best get on the phone to that Mr. Turteltaub and tell him we want to play ourselves before he replaces us. Go call him, Edna.

Edna: Margie, I truly don't understand how you can keep calling me a hussy when you say such scandalous things! I think I will go call Mr. Turteltaub, but believe you me, I'm telling him not to let you near any of those nice young men. You don't want his best actors fleeing the set, do you?

Margie: They can flee to the basement, Edna. What fun that will be. Go call him.

Edna: All right, all right, I'll call. Get off my back, woman! I'll tell you this right now, I'm asking for my own trailer, because I am surely NOT sharing one with you. And before you go getting any fancy ideas, Mr. Skeet won't want you sharing his, either.

Jericho fans got some good news last month when rumors surfaced about a possible "Jericho" movie in the works. We don't want to get our hopes up too high, but we are mighty excited about it nevertheless!

Margie and Edna: Origins

Some of the more recent followers of Margie and Edna may not be aware of the ladies' humble beginnings, so today we'd like to shed a little light on their origins.

Margie and Edna's past began well before this blog did. They have their roots in a CBS television show, Jericho. In the spring of 2007, Jericho was canceled and fans got angry. What followed was a massive fan uprising. Ultimately, the nutty fan protest led CBS to change its mind and complete a shortened second season of the show. (Sadly, the show didn't survive its second season and was canceled again.) The "Save Jericho" campaign of 2007 took place largely online, with fans of the show making use of blogs and other resources such as Digg to spread the word about their show and its plight.

Margie and Edna debuted on the Remote Access television blog in August 2007, and made several repeat appearances there as well as on other blogs. (It should be noted that the characters of Margie and Edna never actually appear on the show itself. Rather, we created these two characters as a way to be able to comment on the show's action without the limitations of being in the show, which gave us a certain amount of freedom in what we could have the ladies discuss.) The two elderly sisters soon grew in popularity within the Jericho fandom, and in October 2007 a short video was created to illustrate their place in the community of Jericho.

We'd like to share that video with you today, and we hope you enjoy it. With the inception of this blog in March 2008, Margie and Edna were able to branch out from the Jericho universe and into a world of their own, much to our delight. We thank you all, both old fans and new, for continuing to provide an audience for these two crabby old ladies.

Jericho Trading Cards

Photobucket

Margie: Edna, I am very upset. I ordered some of these Jericho trading cards because I had heard they had pictures of our town and all the townsfolk. You look at these and tell me who you don't see. I'm about to have a hissy fit.

Edna: I don’t know what you’re so upset about, don’t you remember all that fuss you caused when the photographer came around to take our pictures? You thought he was with the police and that he was coming to take pictures of the basement, so you ran him off with your pistol. You have no one to blame but yourself, you ninny.

Margie: Edna, I do believe your memory is quite faulty. I remember no such thing. I want my money back.

Edna: It's not my memory that's faulty, I told you all that special tea was going to cause you to forget things. You could ask for your money back, but there are still a lot of really nice pictures of the rest of the townspeople. Don't you want those?

Margie: I suppose I should keep them. I do love this one with a piece of Jake's towel.

Edna: Margie, I refuse to continue this conversation with you if you're going to take it into the gutter. Maybe you could go down to Bailey's and see what they think about these cards.

Margie: Let me grab my hat and purse. Bye Edna. Don't wait up.

Margie and Edna: Jericho's Alternate Ending

Edna: Margie, what's that you're hiding in your sewing basket? You didn't steal my Supernatural DVDs again, did you?

Margie: No fool, I didn't. I'm keeping something for Mr. Hawkins and it's none of your business what it is. I'll only say it's smaller than a breadbox.

Edna: Fine, don't tell me what it is. But why on earth would he ever trust you with anything? Everyone in town knows what a snoop you are.

Margie: Edna, I don't tell everything I know. There are secrets that I keep to myself. Mr. Hawkins knows only I can stop you from finding this video.

Edna: You halfwit, you just told me and our readers exactly what it was you were supposed to be keeping a secret! Well, you've let the cat out of the bag now, you might as well show us all what the video is about.

CBS originally filmed two endings to the season 2 finale of "Jericho": a season finale and what they considered to be a series finale. The series finale is what the network aired. This clip is the un-aired season finale, which will be available on the Season 2 Jericho DVD. But it's been leaked early, and like many entertaining things, it has found its way onto YouTube. Watch and enjoy.

Margie and Edna: Movin' Out?

Margie: Edna, the Rangers did everything they could to save Jericho. What will become of us now?

Edna: Margie, I know they fought very hard, but sometimes things are just beyond our control. Maybe we should find a new place to live...or at least go visit somewhere else for a while. What do you think?

Margie: I think you finally have a good idea, sister.

Edna: Margie, maybe we should go to Miami, I hear they have a good crime scene investigation unit there. I always say you can tell a town by its law enforcement.

Photobucket

Margie: Edna, Miami was hit by the blasts too. I heard there are more gentlemen there now than ladies. Let's go.

Edna: Margie, you dimwit. If it was hit in the blasts, then there isn't anyone there right now, gentlemen or ladies. We'd better find someplace else.

Margie: Edna, you're so hateful. I had my bikini ready.

Edna: Well then, I guess we all dodged a bullet there, Lord knows no one needs to see that. I know of someplace that's not too far from here, it's just down the road in Lawrence, Kansas.

Margie: Edna, I heard that place is haunted. I'd be scared.

Edna: Margie, I heard the same thing. But I also heard that there are two brothers there who can protect us. They're used to fighting demons. Say, I have something in common with them, you're a demon every morning before you have your coffee.

Margie: Funny, Edna, the only demon is you when you lose your temper. Two brothers? We could try them then. I mean try that town.

Edna: On second thought Margie, maybe we’d better not. Wasn’t Lawrence destroyed by the bombs too?

Margie: Yes, Edna, so we can't go there. Hmm...why don't we see if we can track these young men down and hitch a ride with them in their cool car? I do so love a back seat.

Photobucket

Edna: Margie, for their sake, maybe we'd better think of something else. I don't want you corrupting those two nice young men.

Margie: Edna, I'm tired of you. I think I'll just go all by myself to a remote Pacific island.

Photobucket

Edna: By yourself? Margie, you wouldn't get 30 yards down the road by yourself, you know how easily you get lost.

Margie: I hate you, Edna. I'll just go visit MY friends, the Beckers.

Photobucket

Edna: Your friends? Why are they just your friends, you selfish ninny?

Margie: Because, Edna, I wrote to them and we communicated very nicely.

Edna: Well, that's all well and good for you, but maybe we should go visit one of my favorite friends, Amy Vernon. She told me that I'm always welcome in her home. She probably meant as long as I didn't bring you.

Photobucket

Margie: I know Amy. She said she likes me best. You'd scare her children.

Edna: Don't you lie to me, I know what she told you, and it wasn't that she liked you BEST. You'd better turn up your hearing aid.

Margie: Hush up, Edna. We'd better go visit Mr. Skeet Ulrich. I bet he'd love to see us.

Photobucket

Edna: I'd better call ahead and warn him that we're coming, I know what you have in mind for that boy and it's not decent.

Margie: Edna, it is decent. I just want to take him a new towel.

Edna: Margie, it's nice of you to take him a new towel, but don't you dare give that boy any of your special tea. He'll wake up a week later, missing his new towel.

Margie: Edna, what a lovely thought. Thank you, sister.

Edna: Oh my Lord, what am I going to do with you? We're never going to decide what to do, at this rate.

Margie: Edna, I need time to think. Where do I want to go and do I leave you behind?

Edna: Well Margie, I guess I need time to think about those same things. How long should we take to decide?

Margie: Until I say I've decided. I’ll leave you, Edna.

Edna: No you wouldn't Margie. I'm all you have left, and you're all I have left, especially if the town goes under like I'm worried it will. We'd better stick together, no matter where we end up.

Margie: Well, I suppose. Let's have an elderberry cordial and talk some more.

Edna: That sounds good, I'll go get the cordial glasses and meet you on the front porch.

Margie: I'll meet you there, Edna.

Amy Vernon tells all!

Amy Vernon, of the Remote Access TV blog, is probably the first fan that Margie and Edna ever had. She has been a staunch supporter ever since the ladies made an appearance on Remote Access back in August 2007. She is a long-time friend to Jericho, and an all-around lovely person, and we thank her for taking the time to sit down and answer a few questions from two nosy old ladies.

1. Margie: Edna, here's what I want to ask Amy: Do you know this Hughie Hefner fella? I think he wants to talk to me. Could you give him my number?

Amy: Well, um, er, [blushes] I'll see what I can do. Truth be told, he has mentioned you before. Both of you, of course.

2. Edna: Amy, Margie and I have a lot of fun writing out our thoughts (well, my thoughts, Margie doesn't have very many of her own). Do you think that there's anything we can do differently to make our blog more popular? We like to help as many people as we can, you know.

Margie: We'd also like more gentlemen callers.

Amy: Oh my. Well, as for making your blog more popular, I've learned most of what I know about networking my blog from a lovely lady named Jane; I believe you've met her? I can't imagine I could tell you anything in that respect that Jane couldn't.

As for the gentlemen callers, photos of scantily clad women usually helps with that. Don't you have any daguerreotypes from your youth?

Edna’s note: Don’t get fresh young lady, we’re not that old! We were quite the lookers when we were girls, do you think these snapshots will do the trick?

Photobucket Photobucket

3. Edna: Amy dear, we know you spend a lot of your time watching the television, do you have any actors that you find especially mouthwatering?

Amy: Funny you should ask - you know Jake Green, of course. It seems there's this actor out there who looks JUST like him! Skeet Ulrich is his name. I've been known to time the "pause" button to a moment where Skeet shows up.

Hmm, who else? When I was a young girl, I had the biggest crush in the world on Richard Hatch. He has aged rather well. You can see him on "Battlestar Galactica" on the Sci Fi Channel. And Naveen Andrews on ABC's "Lost" isn't too hard on the eyes, I must admit.

Photobucket

Margie's note: Amy, you have good taste in men. So do I. Eat your heart out, dear.

Photobucket

4. Margie: Amy, we saw a truck in town last week with a CBS logo on the side. We don't know what that means but we think they're the ones who almost wiped Jericho off the map. What do you think?

Amy: You didn't hear it from me, but I'm pretty sure that's the broadcast arm of Jennings & Rall.

5. Edna: Amy, you've been our good friend for a while now, what are your plans for the future? We know you're busy at the paper, but will you come back to visit us in Jericho?

Amy: First off, I will always be happy to visit my favorite residents of Jericho. Just make sure you have some of your special tea waiting for me.

Margie’s note: Amy, dear, just a tip from Margie here. Drink 2 glasses of my Special Tea before you do your writing. You'll win a Pulitzer in no time.

Amy: As for the future, I really don't know. I'm glad you two have joined me in the blogosphere; I enjoy blogging quite a bit and hope to further my efforts in that area. I hope to be able to live-blog the coming civil war, but that future is still uncertain.
